You need effective and reliable logic for treating digestive disorders
You are looking for a dependable approach to managing digestive conditions with acupuncture and Chinese herbs
You would like to be the "go to specialist" in your community for highly effective treatment of digestive disorders
You find yourself immersed in books or "googling" for ideas for treatments, rather than confidently crafting treatment strategies
You question why your treatments for digestive disorders fail to have lasting effects, and why your treatments yield inconsistent results
You question if you are missing diagnostic signs of patients' digestive problems and your patients are not making significant improvement
You find your defaulting to the same points, point combinations and herbal formulas without confidence in your selection
You want depth of knowledge in Gastroenterology/Chang Wei Bing Xue/ as Chinese medical specialty and clear integration of western anatomy and physiology of common digestive system diseases
Digestion is the center of our being, our basis for qi production. Yet, in all your training, you have most likely found that you never had enough set aside time to really get the deep understanding of this core of life. Your schedule is probably filled this week with people who suffer from digestive disorders, even if it was not the reason they initially came for you for help.
Lasting health requires proper digestion. Whether it is acute or chronic, you need a means for correct logic to reach a correct diagnosis. You need more than a cursory understanding of Gastroenterology to resolve these problems for your patients.
This course is a concentrated way to bring your diagnostics and knowledge to a higher level.

The Role of wei qi 衛氣 in the Gut
Time: 13 mins
In this lesson, Dr. Evan Rabinowitz discusses the intricate relationship between the gut and immune system, highlighting the role of mast cells in secreting inflammatory cytokines and histamine. He emphasizes the significance of this connection and its potential implications for food allergies, noting that increased Wei Qi activity in people with inflammatory bowel disease or IBS can lead to immune-related discomfort.

Having taught Chinese medicine for many years both in and outside of the CM Colleges, it became clear that what is most needed (and most often requested by students) are:
1. More clinical training
2. Deeper knowledge in a specialty area
3. Perspective that allows for the integration of western medical concepts into a Chinese medical paradigm without diminishing or oversimplifying the depths, complexity and explanatory power of Chinese medicine.
I have helped thousands of students fill-in these gaps.
Gastroenterology: Advanced Specialty Study of Digestive Disorders was designed to meet these needs. It is an opportunity for practitioners, newly graduated or established, to find the confidence required to treat difficult and complex cases in this field. It truly is the program I wish I had taken upon graduating from school.
The Clinical Training
One of the problems practitioners face is a lack of sufficient clinical training. In a positive and constructive atmosphere, the clinical training will take place in four online meetings where we will discuss case studies in depth. We will have an opportunity to present their own cases and I will provide case examples from my own practice. This is also a time for questions and clarifications on the recorded teachings.
This time will also be spent honing our diagnostic skills through sharpening our clinical reasoning and pattern differentiation. It is easy to get overwhelmed with clinical information. Knowing how to see the big picture and organize the myriad particulars into a coherent treatment plan is a skill. It is a skill that can be practiced and learned. I will present my method for thinking through complex and difficult cases. We will then have opportunities throughout the program to practice this crucial skill of clinical discernment.
Having structured time to discuss and analyze cases in a supportive environment is an invaluable developmental opportunity.
Specialty Study
Most of us graduate from school as “general practitioners” and most CM schools do not provide sufficient education in medical specialties. Gastroenterology have a long history in Chinese medicine and we cover its complex application, but we also integrative the modern labels and understandings of western medicine in our study.
Integrative Medicine
One of the greatest challenges we face is to integrate with Western medicine without losing the integrity of Chinese medicine. This is possible if we have a grasp of the depth and flexibility of Chinese medicine, on the one hand, and sufficient knowledge of Western medical concepts, anatomy and physiology on the other. The program focuses on integrating Western medical diagnoses into Chinese medicine concepts. Chinese medicine provides us with a complex and beautiful “macroscopic” vision of the cosmos that allows us to situate the “microscopic” discoveries of modern science. Most of our patients come into our clinics with Western medical diagnoses of their digestive problems. Having an understanding, and more importantly, a method for analyzing Western medical diseases through a Chinese medical paradigm is an essential skill in contemporary practice.
It is important to me that complex theory is rooted in clinical experience, so the program focuses on the conditions that I most often see in my own practice. After practicing and teaching for over two decades I still consider this medicine to be a wonder and precious gift.
I am sure that this course will brings you confidence and joy in approaching digestive health.
Yours truly,
Evan Rabinowitz

"These programs have profoundly influenced my practice and understanding of Chinese Medicine, and have given me the tools I needed to become a better practitioner. Because of the Clinical Specialties program I am much more competent working with patients who are experiencing complex illnesses and disease patterns, and I am far better at diagnosis than I was prior to taking the course. The case studies were a great way to blend theory and lecture into real life scenarios and offered me valuable skills in implementing different treatment strategies. I have also received great feedback from my own patients since starting the program, and have personally seen a lot of success using the techniques covered in the course. I would recommend this program to anyone looking to further their study and abilities in Chinese Medicine, and to anyone looking to improve their patient's care in a meaningful and impactful way."

"Learning Chinese herbal medicine with Evan has been nothing less than profound and ripe with the depth and richness inherent in both the philosophy and practice of Chinese medicine. His transmission of the teachings are steeped in both historical context, relevance and homage to the great scholars and masters from which they originated. If you are looking to deepen or reawaken your knowledge and love of Chinese medicine, I highly recommend you take this program. You will thank me afterwards."
"It’s said great leaders and teachers point not to themselves but to the greater source that inspires them, and with humility. I say this is true of Evan’s teaching in Chinese Medicine. I’ve studied herbs, pulse diagnosis and many other aspects of Chinese Medicine with Evan since 2011 through the various programs he has offered at MUIH and Yao Shan Center in Washington, DC. His teaching style truly integrates mind, body, spirit as One and in relationship with our natural world as our greater teacher and source. His keen observational skills also makes him aware of each student in the class as an essential participant within our larger order. No one gets left behind and we live it 3D and multi-dimensionally with Evan! With kindness and good humor he lays the foundations, conveys this essential knowledge, teaching sensory awareness and this great tradition for human care, as he has come to know it. His expertise and teaching style gives opportunity for our confidence to grow for the sake of our unique CM practices and all the connected relationships we have beyond the classroom, within the larger realm(s), so we may pass it forward too. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to listen and learn with Evan through the years."

"The program was exactly what I was looking for in a continuing education course. It provided the support I needed to improve my diagnostic skills in both herbs and acupuncture, especially with complicated cases- invaluable as a relatively new practitioner. The synchronous classes were always an opportunity to ask questions and learn from the case studies and insights of the other brilliant acupuncturists taking the program. Evan is a gifted teacher who gives 100% every time, and I feel lucky to be learning from his years of experience and scholarship."

" ... It is an in-depth exploration of many of the most common complaints seen in acupuncture clinics, which makes it extremely practical. Taking the course has deepened my understanding of Chinese medicine theory in relation to these common complaints. I am now also better equipped to interpret information about my patients' Western diagnoses and treatments through a Chinese medicine lens because of Evan's lectures combining both Western and Eastern perspectives. For each health condition, the course covers both herbal and acupuncture treatment strategies. This has helped me to create more powerfully synergistic treatment plans. Many courses focus on either herbs or acupuncture in the treatment of particular conditions, but this course achieves a true integration of the two topics. The live Q&A and case study sessions are invaluable in tying all of the lecture information together and applying it to complex individual cases, along with added discussions of pulse, tongue, and diagnostic questioning. My confidence and ability to create customized herbal formulas has increased substantially as a result of taking this class, and my patients are seeing the benefits in terms of better clinical outcomes."

"Evan Rabinowitz is one of those rare teachers who can bring incredibly dense subject matter to life. His teaching style is extremely organized and richly textured. I appreciated how skillfully he designed a curriculum rooted in the classics, yet applicable to the modern clinic. While I learned practical applications of herbs and formulas, Evan also taught me to cultivate my ability to observe resonance and nuances in prescribing. He taught us to think in terms of the energetics of herbs and formulas rather than just the mechanics of them. I am so grateful for my herbal studies with Evan, it has truly deepened my understanding and love of Chinese Medicine as a whole."
